MVW OF PEI 2

Thank you so much to Chelsey Rogerson for accepting our nomination as our first MVW.

It’s time to pass along our amazing Most Valuable Woman trophy to another deserving woman, below is Chelsey’s nomination in her own words:

Congratulations to Jessica Lake!

“Since we were young, I always knew Jessica would have a career helping others. At first, she wanted to be a nurse, and we all agreed she would be perfect. She stays calm under pressure, she’s a science nerd, and she isn’t scared of blood!

Along the way, Jessica changed her plans, but she wasn’t far off – she became a paramedic and now works with Island EMS. She loves her job and is always willing to go wherever she’s needed. She is also a member of the PEI Reserve Force, and is trained as a Med Tech.

She is a member of the 33rd Field Ambulance, attached to the PEI Regiment. She also administers the entrance medical examinations for new military Reserve recruits coming into the PEI regiment. As a military member, she volunteered to participate in Operation Lentus in May 2019, and was deployed to New Brunswick to assist with flood relief efforts and provide medical support. She strongly felt that it was important to take time away from her civilian job and her children, in order to help the residents of New Brunswick. Instead of celebrating Mother’s Day with her family, she was in another province helping others who were suffering.

She also volunteers. Each year, she helps organize the IWK Telethon Fundraiser. She approaches businesses and Government departments to ask for people to volunteer their time, answering the phones during the Telethon. Many volunteers are needed to make this event a success so organizing the logistics is a big challenge. Jessica is co-owner of “Meadowsweet Marketplace” home décor. She and her partner hand-craft framed signs for homes and businesses. Not only is she science wiz, she’s also very artistic and creative. Lastly, but most importantly, she is a great mom to 2 wonderful boys, Landen age 11, and Jack, age 3!

Jessica is someone I look up to and admire. While faced with adversity over the years, she always took it in stride. For many years she was a single mom and still managed to always hold down one or two jobs, go to school, and work towards her future. She is extremely hard-working and never looks for credit, she is much happier behind the scenes – that’s why I think she is an excellent recipient of the MVWPEI award!”
